Complete set or stem only?

Complete set

Some hookahs come as a complete set: stem, base, tray, bowl, hose and mouthpiece in one box, ready for the first session. The quickest way to start.

Stem only

Other hookahs are sold as the stem only (with its downstem), and you choose the base, bowl and hose yourself. Check the product page to see what is included.

On every hookah page, the «Add to your order» block suggests a matching bowl, coals, hose and more, so you can complete the setup in one cart.

  • Hookah (stem) The coreModel-specific

The body of the hookah with the hose port and purge valve. It comes with its own downstem, which only fits that hookah.

  • Base Usually includedFits most

Holds the water. Most bases share the same neck size and fit most hookahs with the right grommet; threaded-neck bases fit only their own hookahs, and mini bases are for short downstems.

  • Bowl Usually bought separatelyFits most

Most hookahs come without a bowl, and most bowls fit almost any hookah. Clay bowls heat evenly; phunnel bowls keep the juices in the bowl.

  • Tray Usually includedFits most

Most hookahs come with a tray, and a separate tray fits most hookahs. It catches ash and holds spare coals.

  • Hose Sometimes includedFits most

Some hookahs come with a hose, some only with a mouthpiece, some with neither. Most hoses fit most hookahs with a grommet or an adapter; a washable silicone hose is the easiest to keep clean.

  • Mouthpiece Sometimes includedFits most

The handle at the end of the hose that you draw from. Most mouthpieces fit most silicone hoses.

  • Diffuser Usually built inCheck the size

Sits at the end of the downstem and splits the smoke into smaller bubbles, so the hookah bubbles more quietly. Diffusers usually come with the hookah or are already attached to the downstem, so there's nothing extra to buy.

  • Grommets Usually includedCheck the size

Small rubber seals for the bowl, base and hose port. Spares are inexpensive and fix most air leaks.

    Questions people ask

    What comes with a hookah?

It depends on the hookah. Some come as a complete set with the base, tray, bowl, hose and mouthpiece; others are sold as the stem only. Most hookahs come with a tray and a downstem but without a bowl. Coals, a charcoal burner, a heat management device and shisha are usually bought separately.

Do I need a heat management device, or is foil enough?

Foil works and costs less, but you have to poke holes in it and replace it every session. A heat management device sits on the bowl, holds the coals and lets you adjust the heat with its vents, so it is easier to use session after session.

Which coals should I buy for home sessions?

Natural coconut coals are the usual choice at home. Light them on a charcoal burner until they glow evenly before you put them on the bowl. Quick-light coals start faster but can change the taste of the shisha.

What should I buy first on a budget?

Start with a hookah set, a pack of coconut coals, a charcoal burner, tongs and one or two flavors. A heat management device, a spare bowl and cleaning brushes can come later.

How do I keep the setup clean?

Empty the base after every session and rinse the base and stem with warm water. Brush them out regularly, and wash a silicone hose so old flavors do not linger.
