Hookah and shisha are often used interchangeably, but there are actually some distinct differences between the two.
Shisha is a type of tobacco that is usually sold in molasses form. It is most commonly smoked through a hookah pipe. Hookah, on the other hand, refers to the actual smoking device itself – typically a large water pipe with one or more hoses coming off of it. Traditionally, shisha would be placed inside the bowl of the hookah and then covered with foil and charcoal before being lit. The heat from the charcoal would then cause the tobacco to produce smoke, which would then be inhaled through the hose.
